Setting Up Dynamic Product Descriptions

Overview

In the Surge theme, you have the flexibility to choose between generic text (standard across all products) and dynamic descriptions (unique content pulled directly from your Shopify admin).

By default, some layouts may include placeholder text meant for brand-wide benefits. This guide will show you how to swap that generic content for the specific product copy you’ve written in your Shopify back end, ensuring your customers see the right details for the right product every time.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Access the Theme Customizer

  • Log in to your Shopify Admin.
  • Navigate to Online StoreThemes.
  • Click the Edit Theme button next to your Surge theme.
  • At the top of the screen, use the dropdown menu to select ProductsDefault product (or the specific template you are working on).

2. Identify the Description Block

  • On the left-hand sidebar, look at the Product Information section.
  • You may notice a default "Description" block that contains generic text (e.g., brand advantages or manufacturer notes).
  • Tip: This generic block is great for multi-product stores wanting to show the same "Why buy from us" text on every page, but if you want unique product details, proceed to the next step.

3. Remove Generic Content

  • Click on the existing description block that contains the generic text you wish to replace.
  • Click Remove block (or the trash icon) at the bottom of that block's settings.

4. Add the Dynamic Product Description

  • Click Add block within the Product Information section.
  • From the list of available blocks, select Product description (usually found at the top of the list).
  • The theme will now automatically pull the copy directly from the Description field in your Shopify Product Admin.

5. Position and Save

  • Drag and drop the new Product Description block to your preferred position (e.g., right under the price or below the buy buttons).
  • Hit Save in the top right corner.

✨ Pro Tip

If you want to have both, you can! You can keep a dynamic description for product-specific specs and add a separate text block below it for your "Brand Guarantee" or "Shipping Info" that stays the same across all products.
