Global Review Auto-Sync System

Overview

The Global Review Auto-Sync System enables Surge to automatically retrieve and display product ratings and review counts across the theme without requiring dedicated integrations for every review platform.

Instead of relying on app-specific integrations, Surge uses Shopify metafields and standardized review data sources to dynamically display review information throughout your store. This allows ratings and review counts to automatically update across supported sections, helping maintain consistency and reducing manual work.

Supported Review Apps

The Global Review Auto-Sync System currently supports review data from the following platforms through metafield implementations:

• Shopify Product Reviews (Legacy)
• Judge.me
• Air Reviews
• Ali Reviews (FireApps)
• Rivyo Reviews
• Stamped.io (partial support)
• Yotpo (partial support, depending on setup)

Note: If you are using a different review application, additional integration work may be required to make review data available within the theme.

How to Add Review-Enabled Sections

To add a section that can display synchronized review data:

• From your Shopify admin, navigate to Online Store.
• Locate your Surge theme and click Edit theme.
• Under the current template, click Add Section.
• Select Apps

• Select the Review App that you have enabled under App Embeds.
•  If don't see it from the list, that means you haven't installed the app and enabled it.

• Configure the section settings as needed.
• Click Save to apply your changes.

How It Works

When supported review data is available through Shopify metafields, Surge automatically retrieves product ratings and review counts and displays them throughout compatible theme sections.

This means review information can remain synchronized across your storefront without requiring manual updates whenever new reviews are added through your review platform.

As review counts and ratings change, the displayed data updates automatically, helping ensure customers always see the latest social proof.

Additional Note:

Global Review App Compatibility

Review apps that use their own App Blocks or App Embed widgets will continue to display reviews through their native integrations. However, Surge's built-in review stars and review counts (shown on product cards, featured products, sliders, and other theme elements) rely on Shopify review metafields.

As a result, the Global Review Auto-Sync System fully supports review apps that populate Shopify's standard review metafields. Review apps that do not use these metafields may require additional setup or custom integration for their review data to appear within Surge's built-in review elements.
