Overview:
Metafields allow you to store extra information for your products, collections, customers, or other resources in Shopify. The Surge theme fully supports metafields, enabling you to display custom content, add extra product details, or enhance your store’s functionality without editing code directly or adding custom code.
With metafields, you can:
- Show additional product specifications (e.g., dimensions, materials, care instructions).
- Add custom content to collection pages or blog posts.
- Display unique offers, badges, or labels.
How to use metafields in Surge:
- Create a Metafield in Shopify:
- Go to your Shopify admin and select the resource you want to add a metafield to (product, collection, etc.).
- Click “Metafields” and then “Add definition”.
- Set the type of content (text, number, URL, etc.) and give it a name.
- Add Content to Your Metafield:
- After creating the metafield definition, go to the specific product, collection, or page.
- Fill in the value for your new metafield.
- Display Metafields in the Surge Theme:
- Surge automatically detects standard metafields in many sections, like product pages and collection grids.
- To display custom metafields, open the Customize Theme editor and check the section settings. Many sections include a “Show metafield” option where you can select your metafield to display.

- Tips & Best Practices:
- Keep metafield names consistent for easier management.
- Use the same metafield types across similar resources to ensure proper formatting.
- Test your changes in the preview mode before publishing live.
